400 tourism players from India team up at travel mart

KUCHING: Over 400 buyers from India took part in the Malaysia Travel Mart, held in conjunction with the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) Convention 2022, which was organized by Tourism Malaysia.

Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Anil Jeet Singh Sandhu said the initiative, which was held in a Business-to-Business format, was a way for the country’s industry players to meet their Indian counterparts to network and strengthen tourism relations.

“It is also a way to promote our latest tourism products and packages. Over 100 sellers from Malaysia participated in this program.

“We hope these initiatives will help boost Indian tourist arrivals and indirectly benefit both countries’ tourism industries and the nation’s economy,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

His speech was delivered while officiating the Malaysia Travel Mart at the Borneo Convention Center in Kuching yesterday.

He said TAFI, with a membership of over 1,400 travel agents involving 70% outbound travel, was one of India’s premier travel trade associations.

Themed “Build Back Better”, the four-day event which ends today, is the third TAFI convention to be held in Malaysia.

Anil said he hoped the number of Indian arrivals would be doubled this year.

“Currently, India ranks number four for the number of travelers to Malaysia. Hopefully, we can increase it to between 40% and 50%.”
