508 Forever Young hosts 6th annual backpack giveaway

WORCESTER, Mass. – It’s something students around Central and Western Massachusetts may not want to hear, but school will be back in session very soon. Ahead of the first day of class, a local nonprofit is looking to ensure all kids have the right tools to start the year.

508 Forever Young and its President Woodrow Adams, Jr. continued their annual tradition of collecting backpacks and filling them up with supplies so they can be donated to students in the area. The nonprofit’s mission is to provide children from all over Worcester and surrounding areas with the necessities at the start of the academic year. The nonprofit worked with Staples, and each backpack has pencils, notebooks, crayons and other necessities. They gave out more than 600 this year.

“Each year is amazing, we keep growing and growing,” Adams, Jr. said. “Every year the event gets a little bigger and bigger. We start at 12 o’clock, as you can see the line has formed since 11 o’clock this morning. We just enjoy being out here, being able to serve and give back to our community that we grew up in.”

This is the sixth year of the backpack giveaway. Adams, Jr. says they’re also donating around 200 backpacks to the YES Academy in Liberia.
