Airlines Asking Cancun Tourists To Leave Hotel 5 Hours Prior To Flight

Some airlines are recommending that passengers should leave the hotel up to 5 hours before their flight in order to be able to catch their flight on time.
Delta, Air Canada, and Spirit have all highlighted that passengers should be more cautious with planning their times and schedules going in and out of the Cancun International Airport.

This different scenario is due to some reasons. The first and foremost factor that is causing this massive delay in time is the new construction reforms that are happening in the Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard. The plan is to expand the avenue, improve the general state of the road and many other changes that are aimed to facilitate transportation in and out of the airport.

Unfortunately, all these reforms are expected to last for at least one year. The government of Cancun has issued some alternatives to escape the chaos that’s happening around the road, but it seems not to be working that well, as the flock of tourists is massive around this time of year.

Another reason that is causing the delays to get to the airport is the apparent massive influx of tourists. Summertime is always a time that people travel to sunny and beachy destinations, and Cancun is no exception. Actually, it is one of the most searched destinations for Americans this summer. It’s becoming one of the most wanted destinations in the world for tourism, especially because the region of Cancun is a hotspot for many activities, with absolutely beautiful and stunning cities along the Riviera Maya coast, like Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel.

All that puts pressure on an already complicated airport, which receives close to 10 million passengers annually for a city of nine hundred thousand inhabitants. In fact, the Cancun International Airport just became the 9th busiest in the whole world, as it is an easy gateway to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. In addition, many airlines have direct flights from the continental United States to Cancun. As a result, many seek Mexico as a favorite international destination, with lower prices, a friendly environment and hospitality, and fantastic food.

The reforms in the boulevard and the massive flow of tourists are making the movement in the area a troubling task for many flying to the Yucatan Peninsula every day. The local government is prioritizing some other methods of transportation like buses to facilitate the flow of people, but the situation is getting complicated, as many choose taxis and cars to move in Cancun, making everything trickier for everyone.

The recommendation of leaving the hotel 5 hours prior to departure time also includes the time that it takes inside the airport. The Cancun Airport is also having some trouble managing all these visitors, with many reporting long queues in immigration and in many other areas of the airport. Therefore, this 5-hour advice may include 2 hours in the traffic and 3 hours in the airport to ensure everything goes smoothly, even in a bad scenario of long traffic jams and lengthy queues at the airport.

All these reformation projects are temporary and are made to improve the transit in and out of the airport, as it is the first contact many people have with the country of Mexico. Since no trains go through the airport, the boulevard is the only way to arrive in Cancun and many nearby cities. It is highly recommended to plan the times to get to the airport in advance because holidays are a synonym for good times and relaxation, not nightmares and stress.
