Amazon Joins Light Up Livernois, Detroit Fashion, Art, and Design Festival, as Title Sponsor

Light Up Livernois, Detroit’s premier fashion, art, and design street festival, announces today that Amazon joins as title sponsor with a $ 100,000 donation. Light Up Livernois will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, and presented by the Independent Business Association Detroit Community Development Corporation (IBA Detroit CDC). IBA’s Light Up Livernois event takes place along Livernois Avenue between Six and Eight Mile Roads.

IBA’s organizing members will present open studios, a runway fashion show, and creative art installations amid a backdrop of eateries, music, and independent businesses along the Livernois Avenue during the outdoor festival. In addition to showcasing Detroit’s artists, the event serves to attract thousands of visitors and patrons to the business, salons, restaurants, and retailers along the avenue.

The Michigan Chronicle and BLAC Magazine will serve as 2022 media sponsors.

“As president of the Independent Business Association, I speak for all of our members when I say we are excited about all of our partnerships and certainly about our emerging relationship with a global brand such as Amazon. Light Up Livernois will illuminate Detroit’s world-class makers, designers, and art in all forms along the Livernois corridor on the city’s westside, ”said Rufus Bartell, president of the Independent Business Association.

“At Amazon, we’re not only committed to being a good employer, but also a good neighbor. We’re excited to support Detroit’s vibrant arts community and local businesses in partnership with Light Up Livernois and the IBA, ”said Ian Conyers, Amazon’s Head of Community Engagement in Detroit. “We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to the avenue to support local businesses and artists that call Detroit home.”

In addition to helping small businesses generate more than $ 500,000 at past events, Light Up Livernois has become the impetus for new business development in the corridor including retail, dining, and professional service firms. Additionally, brands that launched or displayed at Light Up Livernois have gone on to attract national financing and independent visual artists who display at the event have grown their profiles and visibility, creating new audiences, clients, and viable income streams for their work.

“As the State Senator of Michigan’s District 4, I am excited about the emerging relationship that the Independent Business Association has developed with Amazon. Their participation will help secure the Independent Business Associations efforts to drive value to our community using Fashion, Art and Design as the vehicle, ”said State Senator Marshall Bullock.

More than 40,000 vehicles drive through the Livernois merchant corridor daily, representing well over 60,000 impressions for advertisers, businesses, and sponsors displaying or promoting along the avenue, during Light Up Livernois.

“As project manager for Light Up Livernois, it has been an honor to organize on behalf of the Independent Business Association. There is no other event in Detroit that will showcase the intersection of community, black-owned businesses, fashion, art, and design quite like what you will see happening on July 2nd, ”said Melinda Anderson, Light Up Livernois’ project manager and founder of Studio M Detroit.
