Athens designers will rock the runway at Spring Fling Fashion Thing

In the entertainment industry, fashion and music are not mutually exclusive, and the arts-rich Athens scene is no exception. From the unique combinations created and worn by local performers to the out-there ensembles seen on concertgoers and bar patrons, garb and guitars often go hand in hand.

No one in Athens is more aware of this than BYV_Trubb and Anthony Brasher, the co-producers behind last October’s Monster Mash Fashion Bash. On Friday, the team will return to Paloma Park for the Spring Fling Fashion Thing, a free event featuring the work of 14 fashion designers accompanied by live bands.

In 2021, Brasher began seeing Trubb’s hand-stitched rockstar vests and jackets at Volumes Hip Hop shows around town and was immediately impressed by the impact the Atlanta-based designer was having on the Athens scene.

“You take notice when an artist drives in from out of town and gets that amount of respect and support here,” said Brasher, owner of Athens-based videography company Brasher Media. “Every time I saw Trubb at a show, he had a rack of his jackets with him.”

Trubb, whose real name is Brandon Garrett, has become a presence in Athens over the past seven years by producing curated mash-up shows that combine an exciting variety of performance types and art forms. It was at a Live Wire Athens event where Trubb was vending his clothing designs when Brasher approached him about doing a fashion show, which became the 2021 Monster Mash Fashion Bash.

The show will be hosted by ATHfactor-Liberty Entertainment COO Montu Miller and will feature a performance by Trubb’s punk band, Hollowbody.
