Big White’s biking wraps up
Big White’s fifth bike season is wrapping up this weekend.
After a delayed start to the season in early July due to slow snow melt on the mountain, Big White offered a “bonus weekend” on Sept. 10 and 11, giving riders one last weekend to hit the trails.
“It’s been an amazing summer, the weather’s been super steady and it’s just made for some really good conditions in the bike park,” said Big White Sales Director Andrew Daly.
“It’s just been everything we could have hoped for and more.”
Since first offering lift-assisted downhill mountain biking in 2017, the resort has seen an increasing number of riders every year.
“We’re seeing more and more people come up here with their mountain bikes… it’s something we’re continuing to market and continuing to build new and better trails,” Daly said.
To cap off the bike season, Big White held their first Fall Funduro race Saturday. About 70 people participated in the race.
With the summer season wrapped up, the resort is now turning its attention to the winter season. After struggling to fill all staffing roles in recent seasons due to the pandemic, Daly says those issues are now behind them.
“We’re ramping up for an exciting season,” Daly said. “We’ve got tons of Australians and British folks on our staffing list this year and we’re going to return to sort of normal levels which is really great. And it just means a better all-around experience for our guests as well.”
Sunday is the last day of Big White’s biking season. The lifts will be spinning from 10 am to 5 pm
