Egypt finally announced to the world on Thursday that it is removing all COVID-related entry restrictions for all travelers, regardless of citizenship status.
The update in policy did not say when the decision will go into effect.
With today’s decision, Egypt joins dozens of other countries in lifting covid restrictions on travelers as infections fall globally.
Egypt is country number 66 to remove all entry requirements.
Americans as well as foreigners from other countries will no longer need to show:
- Proof of vaccination
- Passenger locator forms
- Pre-Departure Testing
- Recovery from COVID-19
- No testing on arrival
- No testing after arrival

The top 3 things to do in Egypt this year.
Egypt is a remarkable and diverse country – there are so many non-traditional things to do in Egypt. You could be there for a month and not see it all.
- Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride over Luxor
I know you did not expect to see this selection on our list of things to do in Egypt. That is because hot air balloon riding in Egypt is not all that popular. However, it can be an incredible experience IF done properly.
Be sure to hire a reputable company with a strong safety record.
There is something especially magical when you find yourself being lifted above the clouds looking down upon the city of Luxor and nearby rivers.
You will gain an entirely new perspective once you experience this beautiful country by air.
You’ll rise over Egypt’s countryside before finding yourself with unobstructed views of the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, and the Valley of the Workers.
2. Sail Down the Nile on a Felucca
There is nothing quite like sailing down a magical river, especially when that river is located in the heart of Egypt. Sailing down the Nile can be incredibly invigorating and eliminating.
Cruising down the Nile River, right next to the ancient tombs and temples, is one of Egypt’s best experiences for the year 2022, or any other year for that matter. There are boat tours that sail between Aswan and Luxor, with visits to multiple other cities including Esna and Kom Ombo along the way.
You can travel the Nile River by cruise ship on a dahabiya (smaller wooden ships, ideal for those introverts who want to travel in a smaller group or want a more romantic experience with their loved ones), or a felucca (a small, Egyptian sailboat).
3. Explore the Giza Necropolis
You thought I’d complete my top 3 list of things to do in Egypt without mentioning the Giza Necropolis. This is one of the most iconic things to do in Egypt because this is where you can take in all the glory Egypt truly has to offer.
The Giza Necropolis complex is located just outside Cairo, literally minutes away from the airport and main city.
The new changes that will go into effect shortly will trump all previous rules which included individuals required to either provide a negative PCR test that had to be performed at least 72 hours before departure, or a COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing they were fully vaccinated 14 days before departure, or do any coronavirus tests approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Health at Egyptian ports of entry.
