Les Arts ofrece una retrospectiva que, además de estas dos obras inéditas, incluie otras seis óperas nunca antes programadas: ‘Alcina’, de Händel, cumbre del Barroco; ‘Anna Bolena’, de Donizetti, pieza essential del belcantismo; ‘Jenufa’, la vindicación de Janácek de la identidad checa; ‘Ernani’, one of the best scores of young Verdi; ‘Cendrillon’ and the discovery of talent by Pauline Viardot, and the operetta ‘El cantor de México’, by Francis López.

Likewise, the programming includes three titles and styles very appreciated by the Valencian public: el verismo poético de Puccini en ‘La bohème’; The genius of Mozart and ‘Don Giovanni’, and the revolution of Wagner with ‘Tristan und Isolde’, according to the Generalitat in a statement.

The lyrical season of Les Arts will begin on September 16 at the Teatre Martín i Soler with the most recent creation by Jamie Man, an innovative proposal, ‘Zelle: Wenn es dunkel wird’, in which the British-Chinese artist pone poesía y música al servicio de la reflection de la existencia humana, en un ejercicio estético en el que convergen fotografia, cine y el teatro Noh japones.

The operatic activity will return to the Sala Principal with the premiere in Valencia of ‘Anna Bolena’ in October, the first title of the new production of Les Arts de la ‘Tudor Trilogy’, the three operas that Gaetano Donizetti composed around Isabel I de Inglaterra, which will continue in the next seasons.

In a theatrical exercise, the Dutch Jetske Mijnssen enters the psychological drama of the ill-fated consort of Enrique VIII, a role that will debut in Valencia with the renowned soprano Eleonora Buratto, accompanied by a cast of first voices formed by Alex Esposito in the role of cruel monarch, Ismael Jordi como Lord Riccardo Percy y Silvia Tro Santafé en el papel de Giovanna Seymour. Maurizio Benini, one of the most reputed experts in bel canto, assumes the musical direction.

PRIMERA OPERETA EN LA PROGRAMACIÓN

For the first time, the Valencian auditorium includes the genre of operetta in the programming with ‘El cantor de México’, by Francis López, which can be seen in November in a production by Emilio Sagi, in which the Ovetense has gala de su sentido del espectáculo, con un montaje hilarious and colorista, with the stellar presence of Rossy de Palma. Óliver Díaz assumes the musical direction of the work, with the tenor José Luis Sola in the paper that López composed for Luis Mariano.

In the month of December, the titular director of Les Arts, James Gaffigan, will reunite with the Cor de la Generalitat and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in ‘La bohème’, by Puccini, which will be represented in the pictorial and audiovisual production that Davide Livermore presented in Valencia in 2012.

Apreciados cantantes por el público valenciano will integrate the cast, with the young and consecrated soprano Federica Lombardi in the role of Mimì; el tenor Saimir Pirgu (Rodolfo); la soprano valenciana Marina Monzó (Musetta), and el barítono y antiguo alumno del Center de Perfeccionament, Mattia Olivieri (Marcello).

Por otra parte, Gustavo Gimeno regresará in enero al podio de la Sala Principal de Les Arts, el miso lugar donde hizo en 2015 su presentation como director de ópera con ‘Norma’, de Bellini. En esta ocasión, el maestro valenciano propone ‘Jenufa’, de Leo Janácek, obra ineludible del repertorio checo y nunca antes programada.

‘JENUFA’, ESTÉTICA HIPERREALISTA

The British Katie Mitchell presents her successful adaptation of ‘Jenufa’, which, supported by hiperrealist aesthetics and sober actor work, brings rural drama to our lives. Corinne Winters, the reference performer in the protagonist role, will sing for the first time in the Sala Principal, in the same way as the ‘mezzo-soprano’ Petra Lang, who will incorporate the role of Kostelnicka in her repertoire.

After two years devoted to the multifaceted figure of Manuel García, the Center of Perfection puts its attention on one of its daughters, Pauline Viardot, one of the great divas operas of the XIX century, as well as pianist and composer.

El Teatre Martín i Soler premieres in February a new montage of his opera de salon ‘Cendrillon’, con sealo de Joan Font, which will be interpreted in its entirety by los cantantes and los pianistas del Center de Perfeccionament. Meses después, the own director of the Catalan scene will be in charge of adapting the production to the truck of ‘Les Arts Volant’ in its version translated to Valencian, ‘La ventafocs’.

TÍTULO BAROCO DE LA TEMPORADA

Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre will star in the first Baroque title of the season with one of the highlights of the repertoire, ‘Alcina’, by Händel, in a semi-escenified version. The French maestro will present this unpublished title in the theater together with his group of old instruments and a list of specialist voices, with Magdalena Koená in the protagonist role.

Tras su rollador encuentro con la OCV en el apartado symfónico, Riccardo Minasi will return to Les Arts to realize his first operatic incursion with ‘Don Giovanni’, by Mozart, which will close the ‘Trilogía Da Ponte’ initiated in 2019.

El ascendente maestro will put himself in front of a reparto formed by Davide Luciano, Gianluca Buratto, Ruth Iniesta, Xabier Anduaga, Elsa Dreisig, Riccardo Fassi, Jacquelyn Stucker and Aldofo Corrado. Damiano Michieletto is the author of this play, winner of the prestigious Abbiati prize for Italian criticism in 2011.

Diez años después, la ópera de Wagner will return to the Sala Principal with ‘Tristan und Isolde’ and James Gaffigan as musical director. After his success with ‘Wozzeck’, the American will star in April one of the most anticipated titles that also supones the debut in Valencia of Àlex Ollé, from La Fura dels Baus, with a montage of modern aesthetics full of symbolism.

Les Arts will reunite the most outstanding Wagnerian voices for the first representation of this opera: Stephen Gould, referente internacional en el papel de Tristan; Ricarda Merbeth, sobresaliente interpreter de Wagner y Strauss, en el rol de Isolde; Elena Zhidkova as Brangäne, and Ain Anger as Rey Marke.

PRIMER MONTEVERDI DE LES ARTS

The expansion of the repertoire will continue with ‘L’incoronazione di Poppea’, the first Monteverdi de Les Arts, in a production with the musical direction of specialist Leonardo García Alarcón, los cantantes del Center de Perfeccionament en el reparto and Cappella Mediterranea en el foso. Ted Huffman will have a new theatrical exhibition with this fresh and dynamic show, which has been a sensation this year at the Festival de Aix-en-Provence.

The operatic season will close with the last Verdi con theme española, still pending representation in Les Arts, ‘Ernani’, in a new production that will bring together two of the new talents of the lyrical panorama with major projection, the young batuta Michele Spotti en el podio y el ‘regista’ Andrea Bernard.

Grandes intrepretes verdianos will conform the quartet protagonista que presentará Les Arts para este título y que encabezárá la grand diva esteudianani Angela Meade, en su primera actura en la ópera valenciana, junto con Piero Pretti, Franco Vasallo y Evgeny Stavinsky.
