Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville was left blown away by just how good Gabriel Jesus was for Arsenal tonight.
The Brazilian striker got his first taste of Arsenal action as the Gunners ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at Selhurst Park on the opening night. Goals from Gabi Martinelli and a Bukayo Saka forced Marc Guehi own-goal ensured it was the perfect start for Arsenal.
Of course, eyes were fixed firmly on Jesus, who delivered a fine opening performance for the Gunners. And speaking immediately after the game, Sky’s Neville admitted that the former City man looked a level above everyone else.
“The first 15 minutes of the game they were absolutely electric, the football we saw, if they can replicate that in parts of games they’ll blow teams away. Jesus in particular, just looked absolutely a level above,” Neville said after the full-time whistle.
The Brazilian might not have scored but his performance, on the whole, was superb. He made runs in behind, linked play, and looked a threat whenever he got on the half-turn.
Goals will certainly flow for Jesus if he carries on like this for Arsenal this season.
TBR’s View: Jesus A Difference Maker For Arsenal
What a signing this is going to be for Arsenal. It was so clear how good Jesus was and he was almost carrying some of his Arsenal teammates to that different level at times.
Neville was right to praise the Brazilian striker and while others, such as William Saliba, shone on the night, it was the performance of Jesus which will have impressed as well.
If Jesus can continue how he has done on his debut and add those goals, then Arsenal’s hopes of landing a top four spot will gain momentum and confidence.
