Local women treated to night of fashion and fun at 2022 MLT Ladies Night Out – Delco Times

The ladies inside the Ballroom at Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square talked, laughed, sipped, shopped, listened to music by the BVTLive Jazz Trio, nibbled on hors d’oeuvres supplied by Finley Caterers, and watched a fashion show of this season’s latest trends at the 2022 Ladies Night Out hosted by Main Line Today Magazine last Wednesday night.

Presenting sponsor AME Salon and Spa in Wayne provided the hair and make-up for the fashion show runway models, supplied by sponsor Barbizon Chique Models & Talent of Broomall, who modeled clothing from various participating boutiques.

The once-a-year event shines the spotlight on female-owned retail shops, boutiques and salons, plus other small businesses, from the Main Line and Western Suburbs. Former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman speaks at May’s Dine and Dish

Dine and Dish, presented by realtor Michelle Leonard, will feature an evening with special guest speaker Mike Schad, 6 pm Monday, May 16 at Margaret Kuo’s Wayne, 175 E. Lancaster Ave., Radnor Township. The event will include a five-course gourmet dinner. Proceeds will benefit Queen’s University.

Mike Schad is a former offensive lineman in the NFL, who was selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the LA Rams in 1986. He played eleven years of pro football. Schad played a total of 62 games with the Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles. He is currently in his 21st year in the mortgage banking industry.

Learn more about Medicare at four Zoom presentations

APPRISE will offer four free Zoom Medicare presentations to Delaware County residents in May via Zoom to help beneficiaries learn more about their plans.

“Medicare 101” will be presented 2-3 pm Wednesday, May 4. This Medicare presentation will explain the basic fundamentals of Medicare. People can learn about Medicare Parts A, B, C & D; Medicare eligibility requirements; Medicare plan enrollment; and other Medicare benefits.

“How to Complete a Medicare Drug or Advantage Plan Comparison on Medicare.gov” will be presented 2-3 pm Tuesday, May 11. This Medicare presentation will explain how to use the online program at Medicare.gov to find the best Medicare Advantage Plan or Medicare Prescription plan for you. This is designed to help people signing up for Medicare and ongoing Medicare beneficiaries who should check their plans each fall during Open Enrollment to make sure they have the best plan for the following year.

“Medicare Cost Sharing” will be presented 9-10 am Friday, May 20. This Medicare Presentation will discuss Medicare Cost Sharing Programs to help pay for Medicare Insurance, premiums, and some benefits.

“Medicare Supplemental / Medigap Plans” is the final presentation, 9-10 am Tuesday, May 24. This Medicare Presentation will discuss Medicare Supplemental Plan Programs that cover the 20% of Medicare costs that Medicare A and B do not cover. These plans are the alternative to a Medicare Advantage Plan.

South Media Fire Company hosts Food Truck Friday

Food Truck Friday is coming to the South Media Fire Company, 535 Washington Ave., Wallingford, 5 pm Friday, May 6. This week’s vendors will include the Plum Pit Food Truck and the Menagerie Food Truck for dinner and dessert options.

For those unable to attend the recent 100th anniversary open house at the all-volunteer South Media Fire Company, there will be another chance to purchase t-shirts, glasses, mugs, books, and challenge coins.

Registration underway for free diabetes self-management program

People with or at risk for diabetes are invited to sign up for a free, evidence-based diabetes self-management program that teaches the skills needed in the dat-today management of diabetes. The program, originally developed at Stanford University, is designed to help people gain self-confidence with the ability to maintain and / or increase life’s activities.

The small group workshops are six weeks long, meeting once a week for 2.5 hours. The meetings are highly interactive, focusing on building skills, sharing experiences and support. Participants will learn how to make weekly action plans and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out the self-management program.

Haverford Spring music festival returns

HAVERFORD – For the first time since 2019, the Haverford Spring Fest music festival will return. Kelly Music for Life has released plans for Haverford Spring Fest Music Festival with live music scheduled for two stages, 11 am to 7 pm Saturday, May 14 in Havertown. Admission is free. The festival will feature over 20 bands and performers and is the first of five major outdoor music festivals planned for Haverford Township in 2022.

In addition to the live music, the annual festival will feature a beer garden, kids’ fun zone, food vendors, crafts, and more. People, or all ages, are welcome to bring their own chair or blankets for seating. Performers will be on the outside band stage at 50 E. Eagle Rd., Havertown and indoors on the singer / songwriter stage at Kelly Center for Music, Arts and Community, 4 E. Eagle Rd., Havertown.

The outdoor stage schedule and times are: 11a.m., Lea Bassant, National Anthem and Haverford High School Jazz Ensemble with director Michael Fein; 12:05 pm, Main Line School of Rock- Delta Squad; 1:10 pm, Edge Hill Rounders featuring Joe Mass– American Revival; 2:15 pm, David Coppa and Scrapple – Post Modern Blues; 3:20 pm, Lisa Chavous – Tina Turner Tribute; 4:25 pm, I Love Annie – Indie Rock; 5:30 pm, Angry Young Band – Billy Joel Tribute.
