Man jailed for six months for removing colostomy bag in arrest

A MAN has been jailed for removing his colostomy bag when he was arrested in Bradford.

Mohammed Naveed Karim, 35, of The Crescent, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, was jailed for a total of six months for two offences.

In the first, theft from a shop, he was committed to prison for six months for stealing meat and poultry, to the value of £211.62, from Lidl in Bradford. This offense took place on June 24, 2022.

Karim was committed to prison for six months, to run concurrently, for a charge of breaching criminal behavior order – Sentencing Act 2020.

In this offence, without reasonable excuse, he removed his colostomy bag when arrested which he was prohibited from doing by a criminal behavior order made by Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court on July 6, 2021. This offense took place in Bradford on June 24, 2022.

He was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge. A collection order was also made by the court during Karim’s sentencing hearing.

The offense was deemed so serious because of Karim’s flagrant disregard for court orders, because the offense was aggravated by his record of previous offending.

Karim pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court on September 15, 2022.
